has been the primary publication for Washington University’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology since 1971. Originally created to highlight news from the Department of Radiology’s faculty, staff, and residents at the School of Medicine, Focal Spot
was a popular newsletter from its first issue. As readership expanded, what began as a 12-page newsletter transformed into a full-fledged magazine in the 1980s that included in-depth reporting on campus-wide radiology news. The Focal Spot
staff expanded to include an editor, writers, photographers, and designers to produce a widely-distributed and well-received magazine showcasing radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals.
The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology continues to publish Focal Spot today.
