Description
Brianna Grant is a first-year Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) student. She shared artwork created with fabric.
The piece is a fabric composition created using machine-sewn paper piecing, applique, and traditional hand-stitching methods. The gradual transition from light to dark in the letters of "BECOMING" represents the inner growth of a person as they grapple with the many layers of "being" to fully own and become their identity. The 3-dimensional flowers represent the beauty of embodying that identity.
The artist drew inspiration from the foundational philosophy in occupational therapy of "Doing, Being, and Becoming," originally published by A. Allart Wilcock. The concept of "becoming" relates to a person working to reach their potential, ultimately taking on the identity of who they aspire to be.
