Description

Dr. Janice Hanson is the Director of Medical Education Research Unit in the Office of Medical Education. She shared a personal story and the importance of being open to unexpected people and caring.

Excerpt:

…. I had felt alone during those early morning hours of driving, the hours at night reading and trying to discern the mysteries of anti-coagulation and P-450 enzymes, and the too-few hours for sleeping before 4:30 a.m. arrived again. Then someone showed up in the line at the coffee bar, noticed a quiet comment, asked a question, and listened to a story. Someone cared enough to let me know that the impression that I was alone was an illusion, and that I should stay alert for unexpected people who will come alongside, listen, and offer help….
