St. Louis OHRP National Research Forum and Community-Engaged Research Conference centered on Exploring the Unique Community-Academic Relationship. This two day brought together representatives from the St. Louis community along with others from 25 states and 37 community organizations to present, speak, and participate in discussion groups with academic investigators from Washington University, Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University, University of North Carolina and the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). On hand were representatives from Saint Louis University, St. Luke’s Hospital, Mercy St. Louis, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and SSM Healthcare along with representatives from the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) and the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). In all, 306 individuals participated in conversations that centered on regulatory guidance, health literacy, novel approaches for community input, career paths, dissemination of results, best practices, overcoming barriers, sustaining long-term partnerships, consent, study conduct and design, training, and financial issues for community engaged research.
