Description
Erin Herrera, CRNA and Dr. Clare Ridley are faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology. They shared a collaborative piece created during the 2025 Women of WUDA (WashU Medicine Department of Anesthesiolgy) retreat.
It reflects a shared exploration of gratitude within the practice of medicine. Designed as both a collage and a painting, the work was built collectively by women across the Department of Anesthesiology, including faculty, trainees, clinical staff, and administrative team members. Each participant contributed words, images, textures, and marks that represent what their work means to them, what they are grateful for within their professional community, and where they find joy in their daily practice. The process of creating the piece was as meaningful as the final artwork itself. Working side by side, participants engaged in conversation, reflection, and quiet creativity, mirroring the collaborative nature of clinical care. Individual contributions remain distinct, yet they overlap and interweave, symbolizing how diverse roles, experiences, and perspectives come together to support patients and one another. Hanging permanently within the department, the artwork serves as a visual anchor and reminder of connection.
